Entries are being invited for the Staffordshire County Tennis Championships, taking place atWolverhampton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club in August.
The Grade 3 event is open to all players living in Staffordshire who have an LTA rating, and is alwaysa popular week on the local tennis calendar.
There are singles and doubles competitions taking place for many different age groups, with themens’ and women’s singles titles having been won last year by Fin Cook and Serena Gill respectively.
“The County Championships is an annual tournament which is open to everyone from Staffordshire,”says WLTSC Everypoint Rackets Manager Paul Hodgetts.
“I think sometimes people don’t enter because they think they might not be good enough but itreally is a great tournament to get involved in.
“The more players that enter, from a school level or a club level, they are likely to come up againstplayers of a similar ability, and then some will go on and have the chance to pit their wits againstsome of the best players in the county.
“That can be a great experience, and what often happens is that maybe players of a club level comeup against county players and drag themselves up and improve their level.
“The events range from under-8s to over-55s, and there also consolation events in singles anddoubles for first round losers, so there is plenty of opportunity for entrants to enjoy plenty of tennisat the tournament.”
This will be the fourth successive year that the championships have been staged at WLTSC, which isa source of some pride for the Tettenhall-based club.
“It is a great honour for us to be able to stage the tournament, and we are also fortunate in that wehave a lot of club members who make it through to the business end of the draws,” added Hodgetts.
“And the standard of tennis is very attractive in any case, so it is always an excellent week.
“There is a nice buzz around the club during the County Championships, and it would also be greatto have more spectators coming in to enjoy the event, to watch some exciting and competitivetennis.”
