Our mission is to help members keep healthy, play sport and make friends and throughout the last few months we have served these up and much more! With tennis, touchtennis, squash, racketball and the gym all back in action, it has never been a better time to join our club.
A team of highly experienced and professional tennis, squash and racketball coaches inspire and develop each person to their full potential as well as helping members who just want to have fun at a sport they enjoy by playing in many of the group run sessions (following covid guidelines).
In addition to racket sports we have a well-equipped gym run by the Energize team who offer personal training inside or out on the grass, as well as 11 classes a week. Nigel Mynott, a member for 50 years says, ‘The club emanates a friendly welcoming atmosphere all round, however a motivated and driven membership gives the gym a competitive vibe which welcomes everybody’
As well as keeping you healthy at the club, they also organise two walks a year that are suitable for all and for the more energetic, The Lord Bilston Big Challenge and Aberdovey Bike Ride challenge the fittest of our members, all raising over £80,000 for Compton Care and other local charities since 2014..
We have 15 tennis courts (outside and indoor) as well as 6 squash & racketball courts. We run various leagues to enable all level of players to find someone to play as well as tournaments (on hold at the moment) throughout the year. We have internal leagues and also teams for tennis, squash and racketball that represent the club across the county. Beth Grinsell plays team squash and says ‘it gives me a sense of pride representing the club and makes you want to train harder to win the matches’
With all this sport and activity, you need a place to relax so our bar and restaurant offers food throughout the day as well as a well-deserved drink! We hold social events throughout the year which add to the family feel of what being a member of WLTS offers.
An example of what the club offers can be summarised with the Hale family story. Lily, 18, and James, 16 years old, started playing tennis, aged 4 and now represent the club at county level. Inspired by their love of tennis, Mum Heather started to play while Dad Geoff takes part in a lot of the fitness classes. Heather says ‘We all love the club and have made many friends over the years; it’s such a brilliant place to be a member of and to keep fit and healthy at the same time’.
