Leylah Fernandez At WLTSC

Leylahs week here at WLTSC

Club coach Tom Welsh brought US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez to Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club to train on our real grass tennis courts in preparation for Wimbeldon. Leylah her Dad, her Coach and our club coach Tom Welsh spent the week hitting and training on our grass courts as well as utilising all the extra facilities that we provide here such as our bar & restaurant and our gym.

Leylah was an amazing professional and although she was here to train, she also spent much time with our club members and our junior performance players sharing her experience of what it is like to be a professional tennis player.

At only 18 years old Leylah was an absolute inspiration to everyone here at the club and an all-round fantastic week was had here by all.

Laylah also contributed to our SEN fundraising day that we held here at WLTSC and joined the RAF tennis players as they participated in their annual RAF tennis championships. You can see the picture of Laylah meeting the RAF Tennis team at the top of the page.

Sports Manager Marc Hughes was invited to talk on Five Live on 10th September about his pre-match thoughts on the women’s US Open as well as WLTSC having the pleasure of one of the women’s US Open finalists Leylah Fernandez having been here and used our facilities in the past and how much of an inspirational sportswomen she is.
